Project details
In 2010, the Town of Salem, NH hired a consulting firm (Landscape Architects Terrance J. DeWan & Associates from Yarmouth, Maine) to prepare design guidelines for new commercial, industrial, and multi-family development. The guidelines focus on site planning, architecture, landscaping, lighting, and signage. The Town already has design regulations for different types of development. These new guidelines will help Town boards and the business community by providing more details and photographs to illustrate the type of development desired by the Town. A Public Forum was held on June 15 to discuss design guidelines and to solicit comments from the public and landowners, developers, engineers, sign companies, landscapers, and others involved in land development. The Planning Board held a public hearing and adopted the design guidelines as part of the Site Plan Review regulations on March 22, 2011. A copy of the final design guidelines (dated March 2011) is available at the link below and at Town Hall and the Kelley Library. Also, a checklist which summarizes requirements in the Design Guidelines is available below. Please contact Planning Director Ross Moldoff at 603-890-2083 or rmoldoff@ci.salem.nh.us if you have comments or questions.
